This website seeks to identify and reveal potentially interesting trends within the City of New York payroll using publicly available data.
The Gender Gap uses the “Popular Baby Names” database from the Social Security Administration. Every employee is assigned a “weight” based on how often their names were registered with a particular sex. This weight is a proxy for gender, and is not 100% accurate, nor does it account for self-identified gender.
